The Tacoma Aikido Club classes are held at:

Tacoma (Morgan) Family Y, 1002 S. Pearl, Tacoma WA 98465

While we do not have a mat fee the Y has a fee for access by non-members.


 

The Aikido classes are continuing and do not follow the Y session schedule.

As long as the Y is open we will have classes according to the schedule shown above.

Except for emergencies, Any schedule changes will be announced in preceding classes and on the website.

 

Class Format:

30 minutes - Warm-up exercises, Movement exercise, Ukemi, (Warm-up before Friday & Tuesday evening classes on your own)

60 minutes - from Kateme Waza & Nage Waza  (Suwari, Hamni Hantachi, Tachi waza)

30 minutes - from Tanto dori, Tachi dori, Jo dori and Bokken; Suburi, Kata, Kumitachi and  Jo; Suburi, Kata, Kumijo

Also included in our classes: Futarigake, Taninzugake, Jiyuwaza

 

Visitors are welcome to watch or train at any time, however

Thursday classes are most appropriate for first time visitors.

 

New members are welcome at any time.  We do not have a separate beginners class.

Please plan on attending at least 2 classes per week in order to progress.

At least 1 class should be a Saturday Evening, Tuesday or Thursday class. 

 

Kyu Testing is by Tacoma Aikido Club.

All Testing is at Sensei's Discretion, requests for testing are not necessary.

Jo Kata, Kumijo, Ken Kata & Kumitachi are required for advancment.

 

Dan Testing is by Isoyama Shihan.

Dan testing will be accomplished at Isoyama Shihan's Seminars here or in California.

Alternate Kyu and Dan Testing can be done at the JSDF Summer Training Camp in Kashima Japan.

Sensei Permission and Isoyama Shihan Permission required.
